Key Questions Answered

FAQ: Who is this course for?

The MA in Creative Practice is for the mavericks, the misfits, and the boundary-pushers of the creative world. It's for those who refuse to be pigeonholed into a single discipline, whether you're a filmmaker with a penchant for pottery, a chef who moonlights as a spoken word artist, or a tattoo artist yearning to break into sustainable design.

This course isn't just for the traditionally "artsy" types. We welcome wellbeing practitioners looking to infuse creativity into their healing work, data analysts with a secret passion for sculpture, and accountants harbouring dreams of becoming avant-garde performance artists. In short, if you've ever felt the itch to create something that doesn't fit neatly into an existing category, this MA is your playground.

While many of our students are seeking to turn their creative passions into sustainable careers, this isn't a prerequisite. Perhaps you're a successful lawyer who wants to explore your artistic side without quitting your day job. Or maybe you're a retiree finally ready to unleash that novel that's been simmering in your mind for decades. Whatever your background or end goal, if you're willing to dive deep into self-exploration and embrace the discomfort of experimentation, you'll find a home here.

We don't care about your academic pedigree or lack thereof. Whether you have three PhDs or dropped out of high school to join a traveling circus, what matters is your hunger to create and your openness to growth. Our only requirements are a keen mind, a willing spirit, and the courage to confront your own creative demons.

Diversity isn't just welcomed here—it's essential. We're looking for a vibrant tapestry of perspectives, experiences, and cultural backgrounds. Because in our view, the most exciting innovations happen when different worlds collide.

So, whether you're a seasoned pro looking to shake things up or a creative novice ready to take the plunge, if you're prepared to challenge yourself, push your boundaries, and maybe even fail spectacularly in the pursuit of something truly original, then this MA might just be your ticket to creative liberation. Just be warned: comfort zones will be shattered, assumptions will be challenged, and you may never look at your craft (or yourself) the same way again. But then again, isn't that the point?

FAQ: What is expected of me academically?

Worried an MA Might Be Too Academic?

At the Make Happen Institute, we understand that creativity doesn’t thrive in the confines of traditional academia. That’s why our MA in Creative Practice is anything but conventional. It’s crafted for those who wield a paintbrush, a camera, or a script with the same ease as others wield a pen for essays. If you’ve hesitated to pursue further education fearing a deluge of dissertations and academic drudgery, worry no more.

Here’s What Makes Us Different:

No Dissertations, Only Creation: Your graduation project isn’t about writing thousands of words on what others think about art; it’s about making art that speaks for itself. You will be assessed on your creative projects, reflective diaries, and portfolios – the real meat of your creative practice.

Experience Counts: Our programme is sculpted for those with a rich tapestry of creative skills and experience, not necessarily academic accolades. We believe your portfolio speaks louder than grades or test scores.

Academia Meets Practice: For those who delight in the academic realm, there’s plenty of room to dive deep into the theory behind creative practices. But here, theory isn’t just to be pondered upon; it’s to be applied, tested, and sometimes, challenged through your creative work.

Become a Master of Creative Practice: Whether you’re aiming to hone your skills for your personal creative pursuits or to guide and inspire other creatives, our MA programme is designed to crown you a master of your craft.
